TRADITION AND ANCIENT CUSTOMS

Throughout the year, numerous festivals and events take place in the Lavanttal. At these events, belief, culture and tradition are united.

One example is the Easter festivities which are intensely celebrated. On Palm Sunday palm brushes are consecrated. On the Holy Saturday the house is consecrated, followed by the blessing of the Easter meat – blessed are the Easter ham, dyed eggs, horseradish and the ‘reindling’ which is a sweet Carinthian white bread. In the evening the Easter fire are lit and can be seen far beyond the borders of the valley.

Further traditions: Putting up the maypole, numerous religious festivals during the summer time,…

In winter time Christmas traditions are lived and passed on to the next generations, i.e. ‘Stefan’s ride’ or the ‘innocent children’s day’
